EN – Pepi Martínez
Corvera, 1992
Pepi Martínez is an artist and member of InOut, the artistic collective of ASSIDO, the Association for People with Down Syndrome and Intellectual Disabilities in Murcia, Spain. Within ASSIDO’s Art and Creativity Programme, she has found the freedom to develop her own artistic voice through experimentation, exploration and personal expression.
Art has always been at the heart of Pepi’s life. Whether through dance, painting or any creative discipline that allows her to express herself, she approaches the world with curiosity, imagination and a deep appreciation for artistic creation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began to dedicate herself more fully to her personal artistic practice. What started as a way of expressing herself during a period of uncertainty has grown into a mature and evolving body of work. Today, she continues to expand her creative practice by exploring new formats, materials and techniques while remaining true to the distinctive visual language she has developed.
Pepi’s work is characterised by intricate, labyrinth-like compositions in which every element naturally leads to the next, encouraging the viewer to slow down and discover new details with each observation. Rich, vibrant colour plays a central role in her paintings, giving them energy, depth and an unmistakable visual identity.
She works with complete independence, making every creative decision herself and maintaining a close, personal connection to each artwork she produces. Her paintings reflect a unique way of seeing the world, combining patience, precision and imagination to create compositions that are both highly detailed and full of life.
Pepi’s artwork is also part of ASSIDO DESIGN, an inclusive design initiative that transforms original artworks by artists with intellectual disabilities into beautifully crafted homeware and lifestyle products. Through this project, her creativity extends beyond the studio, becoming ethical, artist-designed objects that celebrate inclusion, individuality and the power of accessible design.
Her artistic journey continues to evolve within the InOut collective, where she constantly explores new techniques and creative possibilities. Every new piece reflects the vision of an artist who is curious, dedicated and deeply committed to her practice, creating vibrant works that invite viewers into a rich visual world of colour, detail and imagination.
