ASSIDO DESIGN x Terra Natura Murcia: Where Art Meets Nature

Some collaborations begin with a meeting, while others are born from a shared experience. The partnership between ASSIDO DESIGN and Terra Natura Murcia began in exactly that way—with a visit filled with discovery, observation and a genuine connection to the natural world.
Our artists had the opportunity to explore Terra Natura Murcia, experiencing its wildlife from a fresh perspective. More than a visit to the park, it became a source of inspiration. Colours, shapes, movements and animal behaviours were transformed into ideas, sketches and new creative possibilities. Nature became the starting point, and art did the rest.
That first experience led to an artistic competition in which the artists of ASSIDO DESIGN created original illustrations inspired by the animals of Terra Natura Murcia. Each artwork offered a unique interpretation and a personal way of observing and representing the animal world. The initiative celebrated the creativity of artists with Down syndrome and intellectual disabilities, highlighting art as a powerful language of expression and a means of sharing their unique perspectives with the world.
The next stage of the project…
The public was then invited to become part of the creative process. The selected artworks were featured on the Terra Natura Murcia website, where anyone could participate in an open vote and choose their favourite designs. It was a way of turning the project into a shared experience, connecting artists and visitors through creativity.

One of the most anticipated moments followed: announcing the winning artworks and presenting the awards to the artists who created them. It was a day filled with excitement, pride and celebration.
More than the final result, it was a recognition of creativity, dedication and the journey each artist had taken throughout the project—a celebration of talent, perseverance and the power of inclusive art.

Finalists Artworks…
But the story didn’t end there…
The winning artwork then began a new transformation—evolving from an illustration into a real product. The creative journey entered its next stage as the design was carefully adapted into a new piece for the ASSIDO DESIGN collection.
Today, the towel featuring Pepi Martínez’s winning artwork is part of the ASSIDO DESIGN range. It is available both through our online store and at the Terra Natura Murcia gift shop, bringing the creativity of our artists to new audiences and new spaces.
The image shown here is the finished product: the towel created from Pepi’s original winning illustration.

Furthermore…
This project also creates a new opportunity for inclusive employment. Two members of ASSIDO will join the Terra Natura Murcia gift shop team to help sell the collection, turning this collaboration into much more than an artistic initiative.
By creating meaningful employment opportunities alongside creative ones, the project delivers a lasting social impact—demonstrating how art, inclusion and collaboration can come together to create real change.
